CRUISE, CREATE, & EXPLORE THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS
Hawaii Watercolor Artist Offers Art Workshop Aboard Ship
Mainlanders hoping to tour the islands and Hawaii residents searching for the perfect “staycation” might find just what they’re looking for with an “Art of Aloha Painting Cruise” coming in August.
Award winning watercolor artist Patrice Federspiel of Oahu is teaching a watercolor workshop on a seven-night inter-island cruise August 4-11 aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines Pride of America. Starting on Oahu with stops on Maui, both sides of the Big Island of Hawaii, and Kauai, here’s your chance to experience the best of the islands with one of the island’s best artists.
Federspiel will teach four, two-hour classes and will meet individually with participants daily throughout the cruise. Supplies are included in the cost and can be taken home. Also included are all daily meals; on board activities and entertainment; a welcome gathering the first day of the cruise; and a group dinner on the last night.
“The islands have been my creative home for 18 years and I’m eager to share them with others,” she says. “They are my inspirational force and this is a wonderful way to experience them.”
Federspiel loves painting and teaching others how to paint but her art includes much more than that.
“People who have taken my classes know that, along with teaching art, I teach them a new way to see the world,” she explains.
“My students learn to slow down and really take in the things that surround us. If you want to feel connected and open yourself to the flow of creativity in your life, this cruise is for you.”
Both beginning and experienced artists are encouraged to sign up for the cruise and several people who have previously taken classes from Federspiel are already signed up. Space is limited to 15 participants to ensure each student gets maximum attention and leaves full of new ideas and works of art.
Sherree McKellar of Kailua, Oahu, is signed up to cruise the islands for a fifth time. She has lived in Hawaii for 54 years and says, “I highly recommend this cruise because there is nothing more awesome than seeing our beautiful islands as you sail away each evening.”
She also walks the deck every morning and says the islands are just as beautiful at dawn as they are at sunset.
She has not taken art classes from Federspiel before but has known her for a number of years and has a piece Federspiel’s art in her collection.
“Patrice is a positive and loving human being so I know I will enjoy her classes,” McKellar says.
She’s also looking forward to seeing lava entering the ocean on the Big Island and seeing friends on various islands when the ship pulls into each port.
“It’s just a heartwarming way to spend some time,” she concludes.
