For Love of Art & the Islands
Hawi, Hawaii Island, January 12, 2017 – Nearly 50 art lovers and serious collectors celebrated the blessing and opening of Tiffany’s Art Agency’s latest addition—a contemporary art gallery in the heart of historic Hawi Town on Saturday, January 7. Danny Akaka, Jr. and Anna Akaka officiated. The gallery is now the cornerstone to the online gallery at TiffanysArtAgency.com, quarterly curated shows at Henderson Design Group’s showroom at the Shops at Mauna Lani, and an ongoing series of exclusive art events.
In welcoming guests, Tiffany DeEtte Shafto said, “Here’s to spreading the joy that art brings!”
In addition to the guests, many of the 20 local master artists Tiffany’s Art Agency represents were there to share their support, including the gallery’s featured artists Kristie Fujiyama Kosmides and Timothy Allan Shafto.
Kosmides’ ethereal, ocean-inspired paintings became her focus after finishing a commission in 2012 for 28 5’x7’ oil paintings on display in the Honolulu International Airport. Her masterful work can be found in other large public commissions in HI, CA, and Japan. Shafto, an award-winning woodworker, shares a broad range of work including unique mixed-media paintings combining resin with koa and mango woods, wooden platters with translucent details, and exquisitely turned wood bowls. His work can be found at the U.S. Embassy in Fiji and both artists have works in private collections around the world.
“There’s something special about seeing a body of work by an artist – or in this case two artists,” DeEtte Shafto says. “You get a true sense of their mastery and often finds pieces that resonate for you.”
While the gallery also features monthly rotating shows for the various artists DeEtte Shafto represents, all the artists and their available works can be found on their e-commerce website at TiffanysArtAgency.com. Plus, a portion of the gallery is dedicated to showcasing functional and decorative works in wood, ceramics and glass all locally made.
DeEtte Shafto, the author of the applauded coffee-table book Aloha Expressionism by Contemporary Hawaii Artists, is passionate about raising the awareness of Hawaii’s exceptional art to the level its chefs, Kona coffee, music and dance have achieved worldwide in recent years.
“The high concentration of incredibly talented artists in many different mediums throughout Hawaii is amazing. They continually inspire me to find new ways to share it,” she says.
Currently, the common thought is that if art is beautiful, it’s not valuable and that’s a misnomer. “Surrounding ourselves with beautiful things goes beyond luxury to necessity,” shares DeEtte Shafto. “Art turns our homes and offices into spaces that make us feel good. That’s a powerful thing.”
In celebration of the grand opening of the physical gallery, through the end of January the Agency is offering three special promotions, both through the gallery and its website at TiffanysArtAgency.com:
