Colorful, playful, and bold, Mary Spears’ fine art collages take you to the essence of Hawaii. A successful painter and printmaker for many years, Mary became inspired by the mosaics of Pompeii, and began this exciting new direction in her work. Her collages can now be found in private and corporate collections around the world. Each piece awakens the feelings of whimsy and awe as you view the lovely overall painting and the little pieces of torn, hand-painted paper that make it up.
My studio looks like a giant gerbil lives in it with pieces of paper spread out across the tables and floor. It’s so much fun to play with the collages. How many different shapes and colors can I use and still have the piece say heliconia? – Mary Spears
