"I all but stumbled upon the roots puddling at the base of a banyan tree," shares Patrice Federspiel–Hawaii watercolor artist. "The sight of aerial roots descending from tree limbs is amazing, the puddling of roots mesmerizing. The message: Sometimes you rush toward the unknown, or to right a wrong, or to start something new, and the timing’s not quite right. The ground hasn’t had time to prepare for your next steps. The foundation upon which you step is tamped down so hard it can’t soak up your new information as quickly as you’d like. It’s okay. Slow and steady. The drip, drip, drip of a persistent leak, wears away the rock-hard surface on which you stand. Time may or may not be on the side of your seeing the entire change in this lifetime. Do not call it quits or give up hope. So much can happen in a day, a week, a month, a moment. Life doesn’t give up. It moves on when it’s ready — and not before."
Patrice Federspiel creates masterful watercolor paintings featuring a wide range of subject matter. Some works evoke the drama of Hawaii’s brightly colored flora and fauna, while others take you quietly within as you contemplate her inspiring abstracts.
Patrice is a signature member, trustee, and past president of the Hawaii Watercolor Society and has received numerous awards for her work. She teaches workshops at the Honolulu Museum of Art and can often be found painting at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel in Honolulu.
