Creating Your Environment | Space Matters
Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about space—not the "final frontier" kind, but our personal environments and how the spaces we inhabit shape us.
Take a look around at your space. How does it make you feel?
Are you inspired and uplifted?
If not, what’s missing? What would you change?
One of the things I love about curating homes and shows is how art transforms a space. The energy shifts instantly and the same space can take on a totally different feel depending on the art.
Helping you find the right sized works that fit your aesthetic and resonate with you is pure joy. It’s like matchmaking—the scale, color palette, and vibe all have to be right for your space.
Working with local artists, I love visiting their studios, seeing the spaces they create in and how it influences their work and process. So many artists work small because the space they’ve carved out to create in is small.
But then you get the artists who dare to dream and work big! They rent, buy, or build larger spaces to enable them to create what they’re being called to create.
I recall being delighted when I learned the confines for Michael Shewmaker’s grand scale sculptures was the inside of a 40’ shipping container. Space! Kristie Fujiyama Kosmides and Carol Bennett have both rented spaces to create their grand scale commissions in. Christian Enns is currently building his large scale studio. Mary Spears expanded her studio to make room to make huge mosaics with her husband, Tom Hassett, and when we moved to our place, it was all about the 2,200 sf Tim had to create in. Space matters.
The environment we choose to surround ourselves in influences us and affects how we feel. Mahalo for allowing me to help you create spaces that bring you joy while also supporting our incredible creative community.
