Cathy Shine
Since 1977, Cathy Shine has been documenting the world through her lens.
Using a 100-year-old Leica camera, Tri-X 35 millimeter film, and fiber-based paper, Cathy’s images are still processed in a darkroom. Painting with light, her images reveal themselves through his historical process.
Black and white photography enables her to intrinsically explore the heart and feelings of her subject matter. For more than 40 years Cathy has documented changes in the earth as she’s traversed 40 countries, including sacred Hawaiian monuments that are now extinct, but are memorialized only in print. Her works grace the walls of Merriman’s Restaurant in Waimea, and are included in books like 100 Faces of Marin. Original film photographs are available, as well as scanned images of her darkroom process photos now offered as enlargements on canvas.
