Dynamic Tension occurs when complements of similar or equal value (darkness/lightness) abut one another. Here the painting creates an optical illusion as it seems to bend in on itself, appearing almost three dimensional.

Patrice Federspiel creates masterful watercolor paintings featuring a wide range of subject matter. Some works evoke the drama of Hawaii’s brightly colored flora and fauna, while others take you quietly within as you contemplate her inspiring abstracts.
Patrice is a signature member, trustee, and past president of the Hawaii Watercolor Society and has received numerous awards for her work. She teaches workshops at the Honolulu Museum of Art and can often be found painting at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel in Honolulu.
