Inward: Serene Aqua by Valeria Mastrascusa
Oil on canvas - unframed
20" h x 60" w
Valeria Mastrascusa finds inspiration at the water’s edge–the ever changing light, the glow of the sun and the moon, the feeling of tranquility it inspires.
"This painting emerged from a desire to explore how stillness can hold depth — how quiet space can become an interior landscape," shares Valeria. "I was drawn to the point where the horizon dissolves and perception begins to blur; where sea and sky merge into a single, contemplative field.
I’m interested in the subtle shifts between what is seen and what is felt. Through restrained color and gradual tonal movement, I aim to create a space that encourages reflection — not of the external world, but of the viewer’s own inner state.
The painting isn’t meant to depict a place, but a moment of awareness — an inward turning. For me, Inward: Serene Aqua represents that threshold where simplicity reveals complexity, and where calm becomes a form of thought.
The horizon is no longer a distant line, but a place of return — an inward horizon."
Located on the 4th floor, north hall at the Mauna Lani, Auberge Resort.
