Art Kauai 2019

Serving as the juror for the Kauai Society of Artists, Art Kauai 2019 was a wonderful experience. Selecting 72 works that stood out to me from more that 170 entries was a thought provoking process. As I told the artists who attended my Tools & Trends for Marketing your Art Business lecture, the show is as much a reflection of me as it is of them and their community. I worked to create an experience for the viewer--to guide them through the exhibit and provide them with a sense of discovery.

The best part for the artists who are accepted to the show is that their work is viewed by the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and works are often purchased for the museum collection. Six wonderful pieces were selected from the show.

Here's my juror's statement:

This island is so full of inspiration. The endless beauty that surrounds you, the spirit of this place and its people—it calls the inner artist to create.
As you experience this show, you’ll discover a love of the water and ocean sports, farming and gardening, and an amazing endemic owl. You’ll find gorgeous abstracts that call you to look deeper into the details, and bold colors that speak to the colors you find in the tropical abundance here. You’ll even find a couple of sculptures that will make you smile. The diversity of work is as diverse as the community, yet there’s a harmony that’s apparent as well.
Kauai has a way of embracing people and bringing out the best in them. It’s where my journey into the arts in Hawaii began and it’s been wonderful to experience the mastery shown by so many local artists who put in the practice.

I hope you enjoy Art Kauai 2019 and discover works of art the speak to you and remind you of your time in this special place.
If you make it to Kauai, be sure to stop by the KSA Gallery in the Kukui Grove Center in Lihue. The show will be up through Oct. 25, 2019 and they host an ongoing series of shows and events throughout the year. This volunteer driven organization makes a true difference in their community.
