"Anaeho'omalu Bay, in one telling of the mo’olelo (story), was named after young princess from Puna who made her way across the island with her sister, Puako. They both settled at the places named after them. This work is part of the Purple Mountain series–a study of the mauka to makai ahapua’a on the Big Island of Hawaii. Anaeho’omalu, or “A Bay” as it is commonly known, inspired this work with the mountain in the distance." - Heidi Buscher

"I am inspired by the interplay of light on the landscape, which is ever elusive and always changing," shares Julie. "Painting softly allows me the opportunity to recreate that one particular special moment when the land, light and atmosphere seamlessly fuse.

Reflecting a serendipitous moment in time can be, however, a deceivingly slow and deliberate process. My work in oils involves applying layers upon layers of paint, and is highly influenced by my early classical training- particularly the study of light on form. Each landscape is painted in transparent passages with up to 40 layers of paint in order to recreate the subtle play of light on the landscape and control the incremental changes in tonality."

Carol Bennett’s ethereal and light “women in water” are reflections of her own passion for the ocean and her daily practice of spending time in it. They’ve inspired her to explore fishing nets and knots, abstract fish patterns, surfers and stand up paddlers. Her background working in Hollywood as a journeyman scenic artist, painting billboards and backdrops for theater, motion picture and TV has led her to create grand-scale public works in glass that can be found in Hawaii State Art Museum, Honolulu International Airport, Hawaii Convention Center, Beverly Hills Hotel, Harrah’s Casino, and many more. She’s had numerous museum shows and continues to create her wide variety of work from her home and studio on Kauai.
