"Heliconia come in many shapes, sizes, and colors; some grow upwards, others, like the Sexy Pinks (in this painting) hang down," shares Patrice. "The true flowers are small & conical, growing inside the showy bracts.
An early morning swim at Kaimana Beach Park is a favorite exercise routine. With every lap I see “my” favorite fish in their usual hangouts. There is the Hawai`i state fish, the Trigger Fish, a.k.a. the Humu Humu Nuku Nuku Apua`a, the Yellow Tang, the Christmas Wrasse, sometimes a Moorish Idol.
I haven’t seen a Unicorn Fish on the reef, but have seen them at the Waikiki Aquarium. I also haven’t seen a Sexy Pink Heliconia Reef, but that didn’t stop me from imagining what it would look like surrounded by tropical fish.
